Divorce Settlement Agreement

Divorce Settlement Agreement

Jurisdiction:

Area of Law:

Here's a legal form for a Divorce Settlement Agreement.  You really should consult with a lawyer before doing a DIY divorce, but some people hate lawyers enough to take their chances and go through the divorce process without any legal advice. At a minimum, this form is interesting to see what a settlement might look like.

divorce settlement

my husband filed for divorce in Houston County GA, I however now live in Rayville, LA (Richland Parish). I am on disability and only receive $1111.00 per month. my mandatory expenses are much more than I receive so I need to be sure that I receive proper alimony after a marriage lasting 7 1/2 years. I also brought approximately $150,000.00 to the marriage which supplied all the furniture, appliances and paid for just about everything for quite some time. All of the furniture & appliances were left in the home (with my husband and step-daughters) since I knew that I would not have space for all of it and I didn't want to take everything with me even though I purchased it prior to the marriage. Please direct me in the right direction for assistance,  one web-site stated that the divorce had to be filed in the county the defendant resides, is this correct??  Please help!

find a local attorney

If a suit has already been filed in a different state, it is best to hire an attorney.  While I would suggest that you also retain counsel where you reside, you can also try to obtain local counsel in the state in which the suit was filed.Due to your financial situation I would suggest looking for an attorney that will take on your case 'pro bono.'  The best way is to call the attorney or firm and ask if they do pro bono work, and explain your situation. Places to start looking: I would call the state bar of Geogia and ask for any 'Family Law Clinic's" or for 'pro bono' family law attorney's.  They will likely have a list, and provide the contact information.  Website: http://www.gabar.org/contact_the_bar/ You could also trying contact local attorneys listed in the county: http://houstoncountybar.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id... hope this helps.
