Personal Injury Free Legal Help [1]
Personal Injury Law is a field of law that covers a variety of things, including auto accident injury, slip and fall, medical malpractice, and any other liability that results in an injury. These injuries are often sued under a legal category called "torts." Personal injury attorneys will generally work on a contingency fee basis, meaning that they take a percentage of the plaintiff's damages award or settlement. Personal injury settlements are often the result of filing a complaint, as very few cases actually go to trial. Settle your own injury case and save thousands. [11]
Personal injuries are not something to take lightly. Often, insurance carriers will not offer a fair settlement unless you have an attorney representing you. In fact, it is fairly common that attorneys settle cases for 2 or 3 times the amount that an unrepresented person is offered. Here's a typical scenario. You are hurt in a car accident. Your medical bills are $15,000. You are offered $16K from the insurance company, of which almost all of it will go to the medical providers. Your attorney might settle this case for $30K. The attorney will then negotiate with the medical providers to take $10K, because they would not even get that much if they took insurance-based rates for the services they provided. The attorney then settles, takes $10K, gives the providers $10K and the injured person gets $10K for pain, suffering and the hassle of everything (missed work, child care, gas/mileage, etc.).
