Can I take a case over from my family law lawyer and use the papers the firm has already drawn up? We feel like we are being taken advantage of. Both I and the mother of my child have agreed on what the papers should say yet we are on the 4th revision and now both our lawyers want more money to proceed. We have found out that our lawyers see each other socially and they are both in this together. I just need to know what I need to do and if we can use the papers we already have.

Any work that your attorney completes as part of your case, is yours to keep. However, internal documents may be considered work product, and will not be transferred to you after you change your attorney. In addition, if you have not paid your attorney for work completed, your attorney may not have to transfer those documents to you.
