Getting a Cambodian Business Visa in the U.S.

Jurisdiction:

Area of Law:

Cambodia

A visa is an indication that the person holding the document is authorized to enter the country that issued it.  However, the possession of a visa is not in itself an assurance of entry.  Rather, the issuing country may revoke a visa at any time.  The main purpose of a visa is to allow the host country to verify the identity of the visa applicant prior to their entry into the country.

Cambodian Business Visas

Asia has become a common area for U.S. companies to do business, and travel there is often required.  Cambodia necessitates that United States travelers present a valid passport and a valid Cambodian visa when entering the country.  In order to obtain a Cambodian business visa, you must submit an application to the Royal Embassy of Cambodia.

United States citizens may apply for business visas that are valid for three months beginning from the issue date and authorize the holder for a single entry for a period of 30 days.  The visa may be extended after entering Cambodia for a maximum period of one month for the cost of $25.

There are five valid ports of entry to Cambodia, and you can pick up your visa upon entering the country.  The five ports of entry are Phnomh Penh International Airport, Siem Reap International Airport, Cham Yeam, Poi Pet, and Bavet.

How to Apply

Photographs – One recent, two square inch photo must be attached to the application form.

Fees – A Cambodian business visa requires only a $25 fee for adults.  All visa fees and shipping charges must be paid via a money order or a company check, made payable to the Royal Embassy of Cambodia (Consular Section).  Personal checks are also accepted.

As an application for a business visa, you will need supporting documentation (i.e. letterhead from your company and an invitation from a Cambodian company) for the purpose of your trip.  Copies of the flight itinerary are also required.  If the applicant is not a U.S. citizen, but a legal permanent resident of the United States, then he or she must provide a photocopy of his or her Green Card – both front and back.

If the applicant requests that his or her passport be returned by mail after mailing their application in, a prepaid envelope for certified mail, Express mail, FedEx, UPS, Airborne or DHL must be included as well.  The sender and receiver’s name and address must be the same as the name on the passport and application.  (To further clarify – do NOT put the Embassy of Cambodia down as the sender).
