Child Support and Visitation in Kentucky

In Kentucky, the courts follow Kentucky Statutes Title 35, Chapters 403.212 and 403.215 as a basic layout of the rules for determining the amount of child support.  Kentucky uses the income shares model, which divides the obligation between the parents according to their combined gross monthly income, to establish child support obligations.

Child Custody in Kentucky

In Kentucky, sole or joint custody may be awarded to either spouse. According to Kentucky Statute - Title 35, Chapters: 403.270, custody is awarded based on the best interests of the child along with consideration of the following factors:

The wishes of the child’s parent or parents and any de facto custodian as to his or her custody

The wishes of the child as to his or her custodian
